Chiu-yu Tseng reported
on attending LREC2006 (May 2006, Genova, Italy) with former Convenor
Shuichi Itahashi to report on activities of O-COCOSDA, the most active
and successful community of COCOSDA, COCOSDA is now active again under
Dafydd Gibbon, and resumed active interaction with O-COCOSDA.

Campbell, mainly on resumed COCOSDA activities since 2005’s meeting
of representatives at Interspeech, Lisbon; new convenor Dafydd Gibbon,
upcoming establishment of African COCOSDA and a Handbook proposal.
Out of 13 countries/regions, a total of 11 reports were made in alphabetical order. Mongolia and Thailand were absent while Nepal attended for the first time. The O-COCOSDA countries and regions have all been actively engaged in speech corpora collection during the year 2006. The 11 reports are as follows:
Location and hosts of future meetings (by Dr. Luong Chi of Vietnam and and Dr. Satoshi Nakamura of Japan and with presentations; by Dr. Dawa Idomuco (in absentia of Xinjiang and Bhim Narayan Regmi of Nepal informally).
1. O-COCOSDA 2007 will be hosted by Dr./Professor Luong Chi Mai email@example.com at Institute of Information Technology, Vietnamese Academy of Science and Technology Vietnam at Hanoi, Vietnam in November),
2. O-COCOSDA 2008 will be hosted by Dr. Satoshi Nakamura at ATR, Japan.
3. Xinjiang University
and and Katmandu, Nepal will be discussed in O-COCOSDA2007 for future
A book in celebration of the first 10 years of O-COCOSDA workshops (be published by O-COCOSDA 2008 by Professor Shuichi Itahashi of Japan).
Tentative title: Standards and Resources of Oriental Spoken Language Systems
Contents: corpora, phonetics, phonology, prosody, assessment of synthesizers and recognizers, software tools, etc.
Languages to cover: Chinese (Mainland, Hong Kong, Taiwan), Indian (Hindi, Marathi, Telugu, English), Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, Malay, Mongolian, Nepali, Thai, Vietnamese, Singaporean (Chinese, English)
17 regions * 4 papers of 6 pages = 408 pages
The motion was adopted.
The book project will be coordinated by Professor Shuichi Itahashi.
Regional resource sharing and collaboration (by Dr. Hammam Riza of Indonesia) The COCOSDA book proposal reported by Dr. Nick Campbell’s was discussed in lieu with this motion. The working title is Handbook of International Multimodal Speech Resources. Topics include 1. Resources for regional and local languages in the domain of Oriental COCOSDA, African, Oceania, Europe, the Americas. 2. Multilingual resources. 3. Multimodal resources. 4. Tools for resource creation, management and processing.
The COCOSDA Handbook
(to be published in 2007) proposal by Convenor Dafydd Gibbon was adopted
as a first step towards sharing and collaboration. Dr. Nick Campbell
will be the O-COCOSDA coordinator/editor of the COCOSDA Handbook.
